Tata a very own of Indian company known for it's philanthropic activities.Today,Tata owned companies include jaguar and Land rover but this comes to the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the deep breath of the company activities. Tata has become one of the multinational giant today. There is a say in India"work for Tata and invest in Reliance" to emphasize Tatas work.
In 1868 after learning from his time working in his Fathers banking firm,29 years old Tata bought an old oil mill and converted into a cotton mill this seemingly insignificant event was the very beginning of the multinational giant.J'Tata has always has inclination to care greatly for the people of India and had an interest in giving back.
In 1907 J'Tata son Dorab would push to realize his dad dream of tata steel,Asia's first and India's largest steel company to come true
In 1911 his third dream was completed in the form of "Indian institute of science",the preeminent Indian institution for research and education in science and engineering.
The final dream of J'Tata's original dream was realized in 1915 when Dorab set up Tata hydro-electric plant company now currently India's largest private company.
so do such things in so little time may seem like immense innovation for the early 20th century but there is a bigger picture to this,Tata as a company thinking differently even when compared to global at the time.
To give you an idea how forward thinkng Tata were for the time they started 8 hour a work day in 1912 and was one of the world's first company to implement it as a now standard practice.
In 1915 Tata introduced medical benefits to it's employs,a very advanced business model for the time
Since J'tata's founding of the company in 1868 the rains have been handed over to multiple generations. The company's DNA would ensure sucess in the future.
The Tata group is a global enterprise headquartered in India, and comprises over 100 operating companies, with operations in more than 100 countries across six continents, exporting products and services to over 150 countries.
Prelude:
Tata is very old company older then it's automobile division, the company was founded in 1868 by Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata,
he being the one of the founder of modern INDIA,there were some key events in J'tata's life that would change the history of India and help shape it's future of global business landscape,it would be travel that opened his eyes , J'Tata traveled to England ,America and Europe for business ,through his opportunistic mind saw that Indian companies could make a large impact on the textile industries which was dominated by British at the time.In 1868 after learning from his time working in his Fathers banking firm,29 years old Tata bought an old oil mill and converted into a cotton mill this seemingly insignificant event was the very beginning of the multinational giant.J'Tata has always has inclination to care greatly for the people of India and had an interest in giving back.
This was outlined by J'Tata's 4 dream goals:
1)to create an iron and steel company
2)world class education institution
3)A hotel
4)a hydro-electric plant
It would only be hotel that would come to reality during his life.
In 1911 his third dream was completed in the form of "Indian institute of science",the preeminent Indian institution for research and education in science and engineering.
The final dream of J'Tata's original dream was realized in 1915 when Dorab set up Tata hydro-electric plant company now currently India's largest private company.

Present day:
Today, Tata operates 100 companies in more than 100 countries and exports to more than 150 countries
In 2014 Tata made 103.27 billion dollars in revenue in which 66% came from the business outside India
Tata employs more than 5,81,000 people world wide that's more than employed by the Samsung group.Tata is ranked 34 among the most valuable global brands according to brand finances global 500 2014 report.
Tata consultancy services
Tata motors
Tata chemicals
Tata global beverages
Tele services and communications
Tata hotels to name a few
Tata also owns a south Korean Car manufacturer Daewoo but that not all Tata has always a habit of buying British companies.
it's rather ironic if you know the relations of 19th and 20th century between India and Britain. In 2000 they bought up the BRITISH company Tetley tea for 407 million dollars and then next were Jaguar and land rover in 2008 after GFC for $2.3 billion:it was quite an intresting story
In 1999 Ratan Tata and his team were humiliated when they went to sell Tata motor division to Ford due to poor response
after the launch of hatchback which happened to Tata's first passenger car,The American Ford officials showed an interest and taking over the company but did say it in a harsh manner they told Tata "you didn't know anything then why did you start a passenger car division and all",they said |they'll do Tata a favor by buying the car division but at it turns out the didn't end up going through between Tata and Ford.
surged photo later JLR and landrover purchase |
At the time Ford owned Jaguar and land rover and couldn't really work out how to get the sell by.In 2008 things had gotten so bad that Ford had to sell Jaguar and land rover to the very company they had said a few years earlier were useless.
Today, Tata has turned Jaguar and land rover around and sales are doing well in the US and other countries and increased demand has caused revenue to grow.Land rover has tripled their sales from 2009 to today after their acquisition by Tata group in 2008
Tata might look as one of the other multinational gaints but Tata is very succesful in many of their fields for instance:
1)Tata communications is the world's largest wholesale voice carrier
2)Tata motors is among the top five commercial vehicle manufacturers in the world
3)Their steel division is among the top ten best steel makers
4)Tele communication Services division is among the top 10 global IT service companies
5)The global beverages division is the second largest tea compnay in the world
6)Their chemical division is the world's second largest manufacturer soda ash which is used for the manufacturing of glass
Tata minding their founder attitude has made it a habit to some of it's wealth to society mainly through providing investments back into the local economy this is not only true within India but in many countries around the globe.
Tata is also very active in philanthropy through its trust it gives back in areas of medical research technology science and health care.Tata group in 2009 was ranked number 11 in the world's top 100 reputable companies by Forbes magazine
Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), the wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Power, won two solar grid connected photovoltaic projects of 50 MW capacity each in Pavagada Solar Park in the Tumkur district of Karnataka. The projects have been awarded under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) Phase-Il Batch-Il Tranche-l under ‘State Specific Bundling Scheme’.
Anil Sardana, CEO & managing director, Tata Power, said, “Tata Power is delighted at this project win as it further fortifies our vision of generating 30-40 per cent of the company’s total generation capacity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2025. The two solar projects will add 100 MW of non-fossil fuel energy to our total generation capacity, thereby, significantly increasing our green footprint. This move is line with the Government’s set target of 100 GW from solar energy by 2017. In the next 5 years, the Company plans to significantly add to its solar generation capacity.
Tata's E vision concept car:
The Tata EVision is an electric concept sedan that made its world debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.
The Tata electric car shares its platform, the modular OMEGA architecture, with the Tata H5X concept SUV. The Tata EVision electric sedan sports Tata’s Impact 2.0 design philosophy and features clean and minimalistic aesthetics. The EVision’s interiors follow the same approach as well and feature a host of connected tech and multiple screens.
Some unique features include frameless doors, powered front seats and a flat-bottomed steering wheel with paddle shifters among others. Tata has not revealed any specifications of the EVision apart from its sub-7 second 0-100kmph time and a top speed of 200kmph. That said, its range is expected to be over 300km on a single charge. The EVision features all-wheel drive with its dual-motor setup. Its production-spec version is expected to feature a hybrid powertrain, if not regular petrol and diesel engines

Conclusion:
There is a true multinational conglomerate with a bit of difference all in all it's amazing that just one man could leave a legacy that has lasted over a century.
Let's finish off this blog with a quote from his own,J'Tata's himself "In a free enterprise the community is not just another stakeholder in the business but in fact the very existence of it", what he said rings as true today as it did over 100 years ago.Companies really need to listen to their communities and users and one last cool fact J'Tata has even founded a city in India that now has over 1.3 million people.
